Skillful Nature

About Us

Student looking over Albuquerque from the Sandia foothills

Outdoor Edventures, Inc. was founded out of a lifelong love of the natural world and a deep belief in its power as a classroom. Our story begins with a teacher who spent twenty-five years bringing students outdoors—to hike, climb, camp, and paddle—while connecting each experience to learning that extended far beyond the walls of the classroom.

Again and again, students came alive in those moments. They discovered that a river could teach physics, a trail could reveal biology, and the night sky could bring mathematics and literature into sharper focus. In those same moments, some educators questioned whether too much instructional time was being lost—until they saw how these experiences deepened curiosity, motivation, and understanding.

To bridge these perspectives, we began designing standards-based curricula for outdoor settings, ensuring that students met core learning objectives while exploring the living world around them. From “Science in the Outdoors” to “Math in the Outdoors” and “Literature in the Outdoors,” each program invited students and teachers alike to see knowledge as something alive and discoverable.

As our founder transitioned from the classroom into retirement, the vision expanded: to make these experiences available to everyone, not just students. Outdoor Edventures, Inc. was incorporated in July 2025 as a nonprofit organization with a single purpose—to help people of all ages engage directly with the world around them, learning from nature and about themselves along the way. The idea of a skillful nature—one that grows through practice, reflection, and connection—guides everything we do.
